What are the types of stamping operations in precision metal stamping? Today, we will share with you the information about the level of progressive-die stamping, transfer-die stamping, four-slider stamping, and precision-stamping process.
1. Progressive-die stamping
A series of stamping stations are used for horizontal import stamping, and the metal coils are sent to the reciprocating stamping machine with horizontal import stamping dies. The die moves with the press. When the press moves downward, the die closes to punch the metal to form a part. When the press moves upward, the metal moves horizontally along the next station.
These motions must be accurately aligned because the part is still attached to the metal belt. The last station separates the newly manufactured parts from the rest of the metal. The progressive-die stamping is the ideal choice for long-term operation, because the die can be used for a long time without damage, and this process has high repeatability.
In this process, different cutting, bending or stamping operations are carried out on the metal at each step, so as to gradually achieve the required final product shape and design, improve efficiency and reduce waste.
2. Transfer-die stamping
The transfer-*die stamping is similar to the progressive-die stamping, but the part is separated from the metal trip at the early stage of processing and transferred from one stamping station to the next through another mechanical transportation system (such as conveyor belt). This process is generally used for processing large parts and needs to be transferred to different presses for processing.
3. Four-slider stamping
Four-slider stamping, also known as multi slider or four-way stamping, is more suitable for processing curved and complex twisted parts. It uses four sliding tools instead of a vertical slider to shape the workpiece through multiple deformations. Two sliders strike the workpiece horizontally to form a mold, and multiple sliders can also have more than four moving sliders.
Four-slider stamping is a very common type of stamping, because each slider can be installed with different tools. The cost is low and the production speed is fast.
4. Precision stamping process
Precision stamping process is very valuable for providing high-precision and smooth edges. The precision stamping operation is usually completed on a hydraulic or mechanical press or consists of three different movements:
1) The workpiece or workpiece material is clamped in place;
2) Performance of blanking operation;
3) Eject finished parts.
Compared with the pressure used in traditional stamping operations, the working pressure of precision stamping machines is higher, so these higher working pressures need to be considered when designing tools and machinery.
The use of traditional tools avoids edge fracture, and the surface flatness may exceed that of other stamping methods. As it is a cold extrusion technology, precision stamping is a one-step process, reducing the overall manufacturing cost.
